Had my AC go out on Labor Day, right in the middle of So Cal heatwave.
I know very little about AC's, and there was no way I could get tech out on Holiday, so I ended up watching many YouTube vids on how to diagnose the problem.
one of the common problems is the capacitor.
You need to find it, remove it.
Even if it's not dead, except is very old, you may want to replace it anyway because old capacitors will go out..
Just match the numbers on the old one, and reconnect the wiring.
I took pic of it before I removed the wiring so I would not screw them up rewiring.
Turn the power back on, and presto, my unit was working again.
Tip if you decide to DIY, watch more vids on maintenance.
You need to clean the condenser coils yearly at minimum, etc., otherwise, call AC tech to do it.
